Dr. Cristina Ballatori

Cristina Ballatori
is Lecturer of Music (Flute) at the University of Texas-Brownsville and Texas Southmost College, where she teaches applied flute, flute ensemble, and music appreciation.  An energetic performer and teacher, Dr. Ballatori regularly appears throughout the U.S. as a recitalist, chamber musician and clinician.   Former piccoloist of the Acadiana Symphony in Lafayette, Louisiana, she has been a prizewinner in several competitions including the Flute Society of Washington, D.C.’s Young Artist Competition.  Most recently, her doctoral thesis, “Suite Paysanne Hongroise for Flute and Piano by Béla Bartók/Arr. Paul Arma: A Performer’s Guide,” was named a winner of the National Flute Association’s 2007 Dissertation Competition for its outstanding contribution to flute research. Recent engagements include appearances at various flute festivals and music conferences including the College Music Society’s 2008 South/Central Super Regional Conference, the 2007 National Flute Association Convention, Florida Flute Association Flute Festival, Rochester Flute Association Flute Fair, Mid-Atlantic Flute Fair (D.C), and International Double Reed Society Conference.  She has been published in the Flutist Quarterly.

Dr. Ballatori completed her DMA at the University of Colorado at Boulder.  The recipient of a Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Fellowship, she received a postgraduate diploma from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, England where she studied with Peter Lloyd, retired principal flutist of the London Symphony Orchestra. Additional degrees include an MM from Louisiana State University and a BM from George Mason University.  Her major teachers include Alexa Still, Katherine Kemler, and Judith Lapple; additional studies with Bonita Boyd.

A passionate advocate for music education and a dedicated teacher, Dr. Ballatori has presented music workshops for the Yehudi Menuhin Foundation’s “Live! Music Now” program, and given guest master classes at universities such Louisiana State University, Roberts Wesleyan College, and Nazareth College among others.  She is a founding member and flutist of Trio Chômeurs, a wind trio dedicated to introducing new audiences to classical music through innovative programming and outreach.
