Another great attribute of the university, the Mariachi Escorpion can be defined as “the spirit of Brownsville.” This small ensemble, directed by Mr. Antonio Briseno, performs in many university and community events and studies Spanish music. The group has traveled to New Mexico to compete in the Mariachi Espectacular Competition and to Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico to represent Texas at a mariachi conference. This ensemble has recently been invited to perform at the Presidential Inauguration Ceremonies in Washington, D.C. in 2005. No doubt, our mariachi is one of the best across the country.
