Welcome - Bienvenidos
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College through the College of Education and the Curriculum and Instruction Department has collaborated with the Children's Museum of Brownsville over the last two years to promote Community Night. Pre-service teachers in Early Childhood and Bilingual Education studies have created biliteracy activities to promote awareness for adults in the community, children in the Rio Grande Valley, and future teachers. During previous community nights, UTB-TSC pre-service teachers have created bilingual theatrical presentations, musical performances, bilingual centers, bilingual interactive bulletin boards, and read alouds for children of all ages.
This concerted effort has included the use of technology and well-defined student objectives, curriculum goals, and learner outcomes in order to help future teachers develop a rapport with their own community. This Spring semester of 2009, College of Education students will utilize photographs to document their instructional activities and the impact their educational product has on parents, children, and the community. Our students will reflect on the images they capture and provide critical feedback to professors and students.
The collection of invaluable data from collaborations among city organizations, higher education institutions, and the community create opportunities for research, the exchange of ideas, and discourse relevant to Early Childhood and Bilingual Education teachers.
The College of Education is working on obtainig accreditaion from NCATE.
