Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice
The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College invites applications for two tenure track positions at the assistant professor level to begin in either the Spring Semester (January of 2008) or the Fall Semester (August of 2008). The Criminal Justice Department currently offers a baccalaureate degree in criminal justice with two alternative tracks: correctional administration and police administration. The department is also in the final stages of developing a proposal for its own Master of Science in Criminal Justice degree. We are searching for dynamic teacher-scholars who can contribute to a rapidly growing criminal justice program (over 1,000 majors) and assist in the process of expanding course offerings. Area of specialization is open. Applied experience in the criminal justice system and/or teaching experience will be considered favorably. All applicants should possess a commitment to excellence in the classroom, a willingness to serve the university and the community, the promise of scholarly productivity, and a Ph.D. in criminal justice or a related field (a J.D. alone is not sufficient). ABDs will be considered if graduating by the official hiring date. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. A representative from the Criminal Justice Department (Dr. Kevin Buckler) will be available to meet interested applicants at the ASC Conference in November. He can be contacted by calling 956-572-0693.
