I
cannot remember a time when I was coming to UTB/TSC that I did
not work at The Collegian.
It really does seem like just yesterday that I was meeting Dr.
John Cook for the first time and talking to him about my degree
plan. Thank you, Dr. Cook, for taking a chance on a student you
did not know much about and putting a good word in for me at The
Collegian.
In fact, thank you to all the wonderful professors I’ve
encountered here on my short journey through higher education,
especially Dr. Ben Wasike, Dr. Louis Falk and Dr. William
Strong. I may not always have been on time or given 110 percent
but thank you all for pushing me to become a better student.
To my Collegian family, because whether you like it or not, we
are family, thank you so much for putting up with me, especially
this semester when my senioritis hit an all-time high.
Isis, what can I say, you are awesome. I know that whatever you
decide to do after graduation, you’re going to be great at. Good
luck next semester with the paper. And since I won’t be here
it’s all up to you and Graciela to keep Azenett sane on
Thursdays.
Azenett, thank you so much for hiring me, period. I have become
a better journalist because of you.
I
remember when I wrote my first SGA story and thought I was done,
until you came over and pointed out all of the things I was
missing. At the time, I would get frustrated but I know it’s
because you wanted me to become a better reporter and you were
trying to get me prepared for when I went out in the “real
world.”
Well, my time has come and I do feel that all of the training
I’ve received, not only in The Collegian but in my classes as
well, has prepared me for the next step.
Although there were plenty of headaches, stress and frustration
while working at the paper, those are not the things I’ll
remember. I’ll remember the good times we had on Thursday
nights, the funny things that happened at TIPA, all the lunches
we would have in the darkroom and I’ll remember all the
wonderful people that I had the pleasure of working with.
