Border wall hearing

Representatives of two congressional subcommittees will discuss the border wall at 9 a.m. today in the SET-B Lecture Hall. U.S. Rep. Madeleine Z. Bordallo (Guam-At Large), chairwoman of the Fisheries, Wildlife and Oceans Subcommittee, and U.S. Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Arizona), chairman of the National Parks, Forests and Public Lands Subcommittee, will preside over the hearing. For more information, call 882-8231.

Early voting for TSC trustees election

Early voting for the Texas Southmost College board of trustees election begins at 8:30 a.m. today in Cardenas Hall North. Early voting ends May 6. For more information, call 882-3879.

Math & Science Academy performs

The students in the Math & Science Academy will perform a play titled “Redbeard of the Rio Grande,” written by History Department Professor Emeritus Milo Kearney, at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the SET-B Lecture Hall. Bowling tournament

The deadline to register for the sixth annual UTB/TSC Staff Senate Bowling Tournament is at noon May 12. Employees may form their own bowling team, which must consist of two males and two females, with at least two of them UTB/TSC employees. These teams must provide their own sponsor with a minimum contribution of $50 in addition to the $10 entry fee. For more information, call Sergio Chavez at 882-4357.

Volunteers needed

The American Civil Liberties Union will conduct a community conference on campus the week of May 12. Location and times will be announced later. The conference will address issues on the border wall, border security, national security and civil rights. Volunteers are needed for the event. Alumni scholarship fund-raiser

The UTB/TSC Alumni Association is selling tickets for its second annual Spring Scholarship Fund-raiser. Tickets are $5 and the drawing is May 13. Prizes include a weekend stay on South Padre Island, a barbecue gas grill and an H-E-B certificate. For more information, call 882-7944.

Regional Mobility Authority

The Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority will conduct a meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. May 29 in the ITEC Campus East Gallery to discuss and receive comments on the ongoing environmental study, the proposed alternatives and the design of the proposed West Loop project. Summer internship

The Health and the Environment Action Network and the Brownsville Community Health Center are seeking a junior/senior majoring in math, science or engineering and interested in a paid internship to help eighth-grade students learn about the environment. Learning Enrichment Center

The Writing Lab, located in Cardenas Hall North 120, invites students to take advantage of its services, which include support with writing assignments, research papers, online database research and Blackboard assistance. Services are free for currently enrolled UTB/TSC students. The lab is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.
