On May 10, 886 students will graduate with 1,007 degrees and certificates being awarded, university officials say. Seventy-nine certificates, 425 associate’s degrees, 429 baccalaureate degrees, one graduate-level certificate and 73 master’s degrees will be conferred. The School of Business will have two graduates receiving a new baccalaureate degree in international business. The degree was formerly called a general business degree with a specialization in international business. Dr. Ciro Valent Sumaya, a Distinguished Alumnus Award recipient, will address the audience at the ceremony scheduled for 9 a.m. on the Student Union Lawn. Sumaya is a Brownsville native and attended Texas Southmost College from May 1959 to August 1960. He has been the founding dean of the School of Rural Public Health at the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center since 1997 and holds the school’s Cox Endowed Chair in Medicine, according to a news release from the Office of News and Information.
