Jazz lovers have something to look forward to.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, the UTB/TSC Combo Bands
will perform in the SET-B Lecture Hall. At 8 p.m., the One O’clock
Jazz Band will take the stage.
“It is upbeat and high-energy music,” said Fine
Arts Professor Terry Tomlin.
“The combos are made up of about half a dozen,
roughly six people each,” he said. “There may be as many as three
combos. The [One O’clock] has about 20 people.”
Members of the One O’clock Jazz Band are
saxophonists Mike Machietteo, lead alto; Tony Gutierrez, second
alto; Joe Chapa, solo tenor; Luis Cazares, second tenor; Armand
Vera, baritone; trumpeters Jose Delgado, lead; Danny Hilton, second;
Chris Martinez, third; Perla Camacho, third; Gustavo Guarneros,
fourth; trombonists Eddie Paredes, lead; Omar Delgado, second;
Fernando Guerrero, third; Rick Pedraza, fourth; Luis Mendez, piano;
Noe Garcia, guitar; J.D. Guzman and Juan Cortez, drums; and Matt
Johnson, bass.
Tomlin and David Isadore direct the One O’clock
Jazz Band.
The combo bands are self-taught, Tomlin said.
The jazz bands’ performances are part of the
Patron of the Arts season.
Tomlin expressed pride in the bands’ upcoming
concert.
“I think it’s a style of music that people
don’t hear very often. … I think people would enjoy it if they
came,” Tomlin said. “There’s some very fine student talent that
comes from all over the Valley.”
Admission to the concert is $3. |
