Police Reports
Following are among the incidents reported
by Campus Police between Oct. 9 and 14.
At 8:02 a.m. Oct. 9, a student reported almost
being struck by a black pickup truck as she was crossing University
Boulevard in front of the Education and Business Complex.
At 2: 14 p.m. the same day, a Campus Police
officer on patrol reported finding graffiti on the wall of the 500
wing at The Village at Fort Brown.
At 10:05 p.m. the same day, a staff member
reported being stalked by a man while working in a computer lab. The
woman said that after getting out of work that day, the man
approached her and offered to carry her bag to her car. The woman
said she told the man she could carry the bag. The man insisted and
the woman allowed him. When they got to her vehicle, the man asked
the woman for a date. The woman said she was not interested. The
case remains under investigation.
At 12:40 a.m. Oct. 10, a Marcis and Associates
employee reported his Chevrolet Metro was burglarized while the car
was parked in Lot Y. Taken from the vehicle was a Pioneer CD player.
The loss and damages were estimated at $230.
At 10:15 a.m. the same day, a staff member
reported finding a dog near Tandy Hall. The dog had a red collar and
a black leash but no tag. The dog was put in the lost and found
room.
At 1:48 p.m. Oct. 10, a student driving a
Mitsubishi Montero reported accidentally striking a Chevrolet
Cavalier, a Chevrolet Malibu and a light pole in Lot U. The woman
driving the Cavalier complained of neck pain and was transported to
Valley Regional Medical Center. The woman driving the Montero was
cited for failure to yield the right of way.
At 1:25 p.m. the same day, a Campus Police
officer spotted a student getting into a car parked in a handicapped
space in Lot B. The officer asked the woman if the handicapped
placard belonged to her; the woman replied that it belonged to her
grandfather. The officer cited the woman for parking in a
handicapped space and confiscated the placard
At 6:04 p.m. the same day, a staff member
reported finding a note on her 2003 Ford Focus that stated, “You
don’t have to park so close--you were touching my bumper!” The note
also said a photo of the woman’s vehicle had been taken and the
sticker number had been reported to Campus Police “for proof!"
At 6:55 p.m. Oct. 10, a student reported being
harassed by her ex-boyfriend outside a classroom in the Life and
Health Sciences Building. The woman said her ex-boyfriend grabbed
her left wrist and then grabbed her cell phone and broke it. The man
then fled the scene. The damage was estimated at $100.
At 8:20 p.m. Oct. 10, a staff member reported
receiving a threatening phone call at 1 a.m. the previous day. The
caller said, “Te voy a matar”(“I’m going to kill you”) and
then hung up. The case remains under investigation.
At 1:45 p.m. Oct. 9, a student reported finding
holes inside a women’s bathroom in the Lightner Student Center. The
Physical Plant was notified.
At 2 p.m. Oct. 11, a student driving a 2004
Dodge Neon reported striking a 1997 Hyundai Accent while backing out
of a parking space in Lot B. No injuries were reported.
At 3:30 p.m. the same day, a student reported
that a Sony CD player and 12 CDs were taken from his 1995 Oldsmobile
Achieva while it was parked in Lot R. The loss and damages were
estimated at $280.
At 5:05 p.m. the same day, a student driving a
2001 Ford Mustang reported accidentally striking a 1998 Volkswagen
Jetta at the intersection of Ridgley Road and International
Boulevard. The woman driving the Mustang was cited for failure to
yield the right of way.
At 6:19 p.m. the same day, a student reported
losing her cell phone while delivering items around campus on a UTB/TSC
golf cart. The loss was estimated at $500.
At 6:50 p.m. the same day, a woman inside the
Barnes & Noble Bookstore reported a man taking pictures of her with
his cell phone without her consent.
At 3 p.m. Oct. 12, a student playing pool
accidentally broke a light fixture in the Student Union’s game room.
The damage was estimated at $20.
At 5:12 p.m. the same day, a woman reported
that her 2005 Dodge Neon was scratched whiled parked in Lot Z. The
damage was estimated at $250.
At 1:29 p.m. Oct. 13, a staff member driving a
2001 Volkswagen Beetle accidentally striking a 1999 Oldsmobile in
Lot V. The damage was estimated at $120.
At 6:45 p.m. the same day, a staff member
reported an 80 gigabyte external hard drive missing from M-O 1.114.
At 8:48 p.m. the same day, a Campus Police
officer reported finding a lunch box on a seat in the SET-B Lecture
Hall. The lunch box contained tamales and lettuce. An officer
discarded the food and placed the lunch box in the lost and found
room.
At 11:10 p.m. the same day, a faculty member
reported that a window of her 2004 Volkswagen Jetta was broken while
the car was parked in Lot O. Nothing was taken from the vehicle. The
damage was estimated at $350.
At 10:32 p.m. Oct. 14, a woman suffering from
alcohol poisoning in a Fort Brown Villa condominium was transported
to Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville. A student resident
told a Campus Police officer he had returned to the condo and found
his girlfriend had too much to drink and that his roommate also was
drinking. A staff member at The Village at Fort Brown said the
condominiums are alcohol-free too. The student resident said he was
not aware of the alcohol-free policy. He was referred to the
coordinator for student judicial affairs. The case remains under
investigation.
