Police Reports

Following are among the incidents reported by Campus Police between Oct. 3 and 6.

At 9:11 a.m. Oct. 3, a student reported that a male student accused her of cutting in line in the Financial Assistance Office and yelled obscenities at her. The man then left the office. A Campus Police Officer advised a Financial Assistance staff member to contact the department if the male student returned.

At 2:30 p.m. the same day, a student reported a suspicious man was following her in the downtown area. The woman said she was stopped by the panhandler near the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, at 12th and Jefferson streets. He told her he would see her at the bus stop. Later that day, the woman took the bus home and noticed that the man also was on the bus. She got off the bus, went into a store and waited for another bus. This time, she was escorted by a Campus Police officer.    

At 2 p.m. the same day, a regional loss prevention officer for Barnes & Noble Bookstores reported that an employee of the Barnes & Noble Bookstore on campus had an outstanding warrant with the Cameron County Sherriff’s Department. A Campus Police officer transported the man to the Campus Police Department. At 2:40 p.m. the same day, a sheriff’s deputy took custody of the man.

At 8:10 p.m. the same day, a Marcis and Associates employee reported that while dusting a faculty member’s bookshelf, she picked up a music box and accidentally dropped it, causing its hinge to break.

At 10:30 p.m. the same day, a Campus Police officer reported seeing four men walk out of Eidman Hall carrying some items. Three of the men ran away. One of the men said he was a student and the group was going to play a prank on one of their friends and scare a fellow classmate. He had a monkey mask in his hand and a green goblin mask in the bed of his pickup truck. The men were advised not to be on campus after hours.

At 8:20 a.m. Oct. 4, a student reported that her 2001 Chevrolet TrailBlazer was struck by a woman trying to park her 1993 Volvo 940 in Lot X. No injuries were reported.

At 2:26 p.m. the same day, a man reported his 2004 Chevrolet Suburban was stolen while it was parked it Lot B. The loss was estimated at $12,500.

At 4:20 p.m. the same day, a Campus Police officer was dispatched to the Education and Business Complex after a fire alarm sounded. The officer said he smelled burnt popcorn in break room 1.222.

At 8:54 a.m. Oct. 5, a staff member reported that a window broke on the first floor of Cardenas Hall North. The man declined medical services. Physical Plant was notified of the incident. 

At 10:10 a.m. the same day, student residents at The Village at Fort Brown reported the smell of marijuana near the pool. A Campus Police officer spoke to a man who was smoking a cigarette near the pool. The man said he was visiting a friend. The man then left the area.

At 12:20 p.m. the same day, a student reported that while waiting for a parking space in her 1994 Honda Accord she was cut off by another student. A Campus Police officer told the woman parking spaces are not reserved for anyone.

At 2:30 p.m. Oct. 6, a staff member reported that her 2003 Nissan Frontier was struck by a 1998 Mercury in Lot A. The woman said the driver of the Mercury fled the scene.
