Daniel HeimmermannWelcome to the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College!

The College of Liberal Arts is the largest and most diverse college of the University.  It is comprised of seven academic departments—Behavioral Sciences, Criminal Justice, English and Communications, Fine Arts, Government, History, and Modern Languages—and offers nearly 40 undergraduate programs of study and more than a dozen graduate degrees.  The 122 dedicated faculty members of the College of Liberal Arts comprise a vibrant community of teachers and scholars who share with their students their passion and
knowledge of the arts, literature, history, and well as human and behavioral cultures.  Apart from instructing students in the content knowledge and methodologies of these disciplines, the College of Liberal Arts serves the University by providing much of the coursework of the general studies curriculum.  All of our academic programs and courses promote critical thinking, effective written and spoken communication, preparing students for a broad variety of careers.  Additionally, faculty members are committed to fostering lifelong learning beyond the classroom and encouraging civic discourse and engagement as well as imparting to students the knowledge and skills that will enable them to participate in the global community.  Pursuant to these goals the College of Liberal Arts sponsors the Study Abroad program, and provides cultural access and educational opportunities for the people of the Rio Grande Valley through its sponsorship of the Patron of the Arts Series, the South Texas Victim Symposium, United Nations Day and History Day, as well as many other activities.

I welcome you to learn more about the programs, events, and people of the College of Liberal Arts and to explore the opportunities our College and University can offer you.

Sincerely,

Daniel Heimmermann, Ph.D.
