THURSDAY Oct. 11, 2007 - Every Wednesday at noon, a group of students meets at the Gazebo in front of Eidman Hall. At the first glance one could assume they are typical college kids hanging out before class. But no; this is the Philosophy Club advised by Angelika Soldan, an assistant professor of government.
The club, consisting of 17 members, was spearheaded by Soldan to create better understanding on complex issues we face, and their discussions range from the role of women in Islam to religion in general.
In trying to pick up from where it left off last semester, the club has picked a new batch of students.
The problem I have is that students graduate,” said Soldan. “I am getting new students to start the club again. So far we have 17 members.”
The club is working with Alexander Dawoody on a series of lectures focusing on Middle East cultures and beliefs. The first of the series is “afraid of Islam” to be held Friday Oct. 12, at MRCS 102 at 1:00 p.m.
