The University of Texas at Brownsville and Texas Southmost College Patron of the Arts will complete its 23rd year with a number of recitals and performances by students and faculty.  

Ciudad Victoria, Mexico native Uzziel Guzman began his musical career training age seven and will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 5, in the Science, Engineering and Technology Building Lecture Hall.  

 

The concert will open with a piano trio performed by UTB/TSC faculty members Rocio Escobedo on piano, Martha Placeres on violin and Patricia Lopez on cello. Guzman will perform a Beethoven sonata for clarinet with  Jonathan Guist finishing the program with a piece by S. Rachmaninov.   

 

Also playing are the UTB/TSC’s jazz bands at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, in the SETB Lecture Hall.   

 

First to perform are jazz combo by the Guitar Jazz Ensemble, the Two O’ Clock  Jazz  Band, and for the first time, the Latin Jazz Band.  Closing the night will be the award winning One O’ Clock  Jazz Band ,which recently returned from the 50th Annual Collegiate Jazz Festival at the University of Notre Damein Indiana.   

 

The Steinway Society, created to support the university’s acquisition of a new $85,000, 9-foot Steinway concert grand piano, will give its final concert at 8 p.m. Friday, April 11, in the SETB Lecture Hall.    

 

The UTB/TSC Master Chorale will perform at Sacred Heart Church located on Sixth and Elizabeth streets in Brownsville.  The first concert will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 13. The Master Chorale was invited to Ireland last year to perform at a number of cathedrals , including the St. Mary’s Cathedral in Limerick and St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin.  

 

Also performing are the UTB/TSC Rio Bravo Brass Ensemble at 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 and a two -part concert by UTB’s Ensemble Potpourri and Symphony Orchestra at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 17. 

 

The Bravo Opera Company will present “The Magic Flute,” by Mozart, at the concert-style gala at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 20, in the SETB Lecture Hall.   

Scorpio Consort, which was to take place at 8 p.m. Monday, April 21, has been canceled.
