MONDAY NOV. 19, 2007 - The John Hunter Room Archives Department at the Arnulfo L. Oliveira Memorial Library unveiled an exhibit opening on the proposed US-Mexico border wall issue.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The exhibit opening “Art against the Wall” was held at the UTB/TSC library Monday Nov. 19 and featured works from South Texas College fine arts instructors who express their opposition of the border wall issue through art.

 

UTB/TSC President, Juliet V. García spoke at the reception and expressed her views on the border wall issue.

 

“My mission has been to keep the doors to our community open. That does not mean building fences or walls. It means quite the opposite.” Garcia said.

 

Commissioner Sofia Benavidez also expressed her views as she highlighted a resolution recently passed by the Commissioner Court opposing the wall.

 

The exhibit includes smaller sections created by library staff and are placed at the entrance of the library. “Walls through History” shows walls that have been built trough out history and “Texas-Mexico Border Wall,” which shows give detailed information about the proposed border fence.

 

Part of the exhibit includes surveys that will be conducted and are currently available at the Circulation Department of the library. Results of the survey will be published in a future Collegian issue.
