WEDENSDAY OCT 2, 2007 - UTB/TSC will hold its first nationally televised seminar, titled, “Border Security and the Challenges to our Community” from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Wednesday Oct. 3, in the Set B- Lecture Hall.
The forum will involve UTB/TSC students, community members and a panel of experts, who will address the challenges faced by the community and possible solutions. The panel will also open the floor up for a question and answer session.
Before the event there will also be a Free Speech Alley from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., sponsored by the Communication Program. At that time, students and the community will have an opportunity to voice their opinions about the border security.
The border region of greater Brownsville area and Cameron County is facing both immediate and future security, economic, educational, health, and social challenges with important consequences for the community, the United States, Mexico, and international relations. These challenges include immigration, border security, unemployment, poverty, education, health risks, and adequate response to emerging community needs.
