Educated in both Europe and the US, with degrees from the University of Northern Iowa and additional graduate work from the University of Texas at Austin, I have taught on both continents in a variety of educational settings.
Throughout my career as an educator, I have taught English/ESL and German to mostly adult students from nearly every country on the globe.
Given this varied experience, I have made the University of Texas at Brownsville in partnership with Texas Southmost College, a hybrid institution, my home since 1990. I have taught Developmental Writing and Composition in the English Department, and English as a Second Language and German in the Modern Languages Department.
As an applied linguist, I am interested in the development of human consciousness and the native and second language acquisition process, as well as language and cultural identity.
When not teaching, grading, sitting on committees, or pursuing studies in topics of professional interest, I enjoy camping, gardening, and sailing with my wife, Yvonne, and daughter Mina.
