Dr. John Newman is a native of Seattle, Washington. He was graduated with a B.A. in Education and an M.S. in Geography from Western Washington University. He received a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Warsaw, Poland’s largest university, in 2002.
Dr. Newman has taught English and linguistics at universities in Poland and China as well as the United States. His research interests include English historical grammar, Present Day English dialectal variation, and language endangerment.
His recent publications focus on Middle English noun morphology and Latinate borrowings in Modern English. He is the author of The Spread of the s-Plural Formative in Old and Middle English Nouns, an internationally reviewed monograph published by the Institute of English Studies at the University of Warsaw in 2008. Dr. Newman joined the English faculty of the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2004.
