Dr. John Newman is a native of Seattle, Washington. He was graduated with a B.A. in Education and an M.S. in Geography from Western Washington University. He received a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of Warsaw, Poland’s largest university, in 2002.
Dr. Newman has taught English and linguistics at universities in Poland and China as well as the United States. His research interests include English historical grammar, Present Day English dialectal variation, and language endangerment.
His recent publications focus on Middle English noun morphology and Latinate borrowings in Modern English. Dr. Newman joined the English faculty of the University of Texas at Brownsville in 2004.
