The mission of the history program, as a major cornerstone of the Liberal Arts curriculum, is to show students how over time people, geography, ideas, science/technology, war and culture both shape and are shaped by the human experience.  Students will read competently, think critically and express themselves clearly with greater understanding about the crucial perspective which history brings to education in a biliterate and bicultural context.

By so doing we hope to enrich the lives of our students and to help them realize their maximum individual human potential.  Last we aspire to instill in students a sense of appreciation of the discipline of history.

We pursue these goals through instruction, research, and service.
