Job Placement Data
Placement:
-
Student success may be measured by employment and/or continuation in graduate study. On January 22, 2004,
Governor Perry issued Executive Order RP 31 requiring the Coordinating Board and each institution and system
work together to provide “the information necessary to determine the effectiveness and quality of the education
students receive at individual institutions” also to provide “the basis to evaluate the institutions’ use of
state resources.” The Texas Accountability System for public higher education provides data for 35 public
universities, nine health-related institutions, the four Texas State Technical Colleges and three two-year
Lamar State Colleges.
The
Institutional Placement Data 2005 chart
reflects these behaviors reported annually by
this system. For the most recent cohort of graduates (2005), 92.70 of UTB/TSC baccalaureate graduates were either employed
or continued their education in graduate schools within one year of graduation. This compares with an 86.77% median for all
state-supported universities in Texas. Of this UTB/TSC cohort, 71.0% are employed, 2.8% are enrolled in graduate schools
but are not working, and 18.9% are enrolled and also are employed.

Since spring 2001, The UTB/TSC Institutional Research and Planning Office has been conducting Graduate Student
Surveys during commencement. The graduating student survey is a paper survey of 41 question items, which is
administered to UTB/TSC graduates of all levels and from all schools and colleges. The Survey question items
are categorized as follows: Background, Employment Status, Educational Plans, UTB/TSC Experience and Services
As per the Fall 2006 Graduating Student Survey, performed by the Institutional Research and Planning Office,
a total of 511 students completed the survey.

In Spring 2006, UTB/TSC created a Task Force that will focus on Student Success; the Task
Force developed a list of 21 goals/attributes of a successful UTB/TSC student. One of these
goals war that: “A UTB/TSC student will attain employment in a career that rewards education”.
The subcommittee’s goal was to determine employment rates at the time of graduation as well as
a follow-up study from the time of graduation to that date. The subcommittee was able to identify
the salary history for over 4,700 students (2001 – Spring 2005), observed a historical salary
increase one year after graduation (Over 30%) that could measure the “Value Added” (Economic impact)
of a UTB/TSC college education. Click here to access the executive summary

In Spring 2007, The Career Services office also began conducting an employment survey for the upcoming
graduating class, the students were encouraged to complete the survey which included questions that could
be correlated to those from the GSS, as well as additional employment specific questions. 25% of all the
registered graduates completed the survey. An executive summary of this survey can be observed in the following link:
