Welcome From the Chair

Greetings Psychology, Sociology and Social Work Mayors:

On behalf of the faculty and myself, welcome to the Behavioral Sciences Department. We are very happy that you have chosen to major in one of the disciplines in the department. We have a BA in both Psychology and Sociology and an Associate Degree in Social Work. Most of the BA majors also complete the Associate in Social Work at the same time. The Associate in Social Work is an added degree that may be of assistance as you enter the workforce. It will also open new doors in social awareness that you have not considered. We also have a collection of Anthropology courses which you may find interesting to support your chosen major. The UTB catalog of courses and degree plans can be found in the TSC bookstore and it is advisable for you to buy one. The catalog lists describes all course offerings including all prerequisites. All majors must see the academic advisor, Michelle Burkott. Her office is in South 252. She will create a degree plan and review certain aspects of your program that are important, such as which courses to take first and of prerequisities to meet.

I also encourage you to join the Behavioral Science Club. All majors and anyone interested in Psychology, Sociology, Social Work or Anthropology are invited to join. They meet on a regular basis and attend various conferences. Dr. Debbie Huerta and Dr. Mark Horowitz are the sponsors. Please contact them for the meeting times if you are interested.

I encourage you to stop by the deparment office in the South Building 294. All of the faculty offices are in this area and you are invited to discuss your future plans and visit with us. Faculty office hours for assisting students are posted outside the doors.

I wish you much success in pursuit of your academic endeavors.
Virginia V. Wood, Ed.D.
