LUBBOCK -- The highest ranked teams in the NAIA Region VI -- top-ranked UTB/TSC and second-ranked Lubbock Christian -- meet in an important match at 7 p.m. Friday, October 5, here at the Rip Griffin Center.

The Scorpions are 17-5 overall, 3-0 through the first round of Red River Athletic Conference South play, and is ranked first in the NAIA Region VI poll. UTB/TSC has won 12 of its last 14 matches and is ranked #22 in the latest NAIA national volleyball poll.

The Chaparrals are 16-4 overall, 6-0 through the first round of Sooner Athletic Conference play and is ranked second in the Region VI poll. LCU has won six straight matches and 15 out of 16.

So it's a battle of the conference leaders in the RRAC and SAC. UTB/TSC defeated LCU, 3-1, in the fourth match of the season for both teams at the South Padre Island Invitational August 25.

"We know it's going to be a tough match, especially at their place," Scorpion head coach Marcus Young said. "It's a very important match because the top spot in the region rankings is at stake. This group responds to clutch situations, so we'll be ready."

The Scorpions are fresh off a sweep of Texas A&M University-Kingsville at home Tuesday, October 2, 30-14, 30-19, 36-34.

After the LCU match Friday night, the Scorpions have a two-hour trip to Eastern New Mexico in Portales, N.M. Saturday morning and drive two hours south from there to Hobbs, N.M. for a match against conference rival College of the Southwest.
