The UTB/TSC Scorpions proved they fear no NCAA team as they rolled past
Texas A&M University-Kingsville, 3-0, Tuesday, October 2, at the Manuel Garza B. Gymnasium.
The Scorpions, 17-5 for the season, won the first two games easily, 30-14 and 30-19, before the Javelinas came back strong in the third game, eventually won by the Scorpions, 36-34.
It was the second win in as many tries for the Scorpions, members of the NAIA, over the Javelinas (8-8), members of NCAA Division II. UTB/TSC defeated TAMUK in Kingsville August 27, 3-1.
In the only close game of the three, the Scorpions had four match points and the Javelinas two after the score was tied 28-28. UTB/TSC could have closed out the match at 29-28, 30-29, 31-30, and 34-33, and the Javelinas had chances to close it out at 32-31 and 33-32.
UTB/TSC, ranked #22 in last week's NAIA national poll, is now 4-1 against NCAA Division II competition this year. The Scorpions are 0-1 against their only NCAA Division I opponent so far, and their other three losses were to NAIA ranked teams.
Talita Milasauskas dominated at the net, collecting 17 kills in 27 attempts with only one error for a .593 hitting percentage. She also had seven digs and five blocks.
Claudia Alarcon had 11 kills with only two errors, and added 11 digs. Daianarah Bracero had 42 assists and Viviana Lozano had 10 digs.
UTB/TSC leads the Red River Athletic Conference South Zone with a 3-0 mark. The Scorpions have a three-game road trip at Lubbock Christian University, Eastern New Mexico University and College of the Southwest October 5-6.
