A new rivalry between two South Texas universities resumes when the UTB/TSC
Scorpions host Texas A&M University-Kingsville at 7 p.m. Tuesday,
October 2, at the Manuel Garza B. Gymnasium.
The two teams met for the first time in 2006 with each winning at home. On August 29 this season, the Scorpions knocked off the Javelinas in Kingsville, 3-1. All four games were decided by five points or less.
UTB/TSC and TAMUK did not play until last year because the Scorpions are members of the NAIA, and TAMUK is a member of NCAA Division II. Prior to 2006, UTB/TSC competed at the junior college level.
The Scorpions come into the match with a 16-5 record and No. 22 ranking in the latest NAIA national poll. The Javelinas are 8-7, and have already matched their win total from last year.
UTB/TSC leads the Red River Athletic Conference South Zone with a 3-0 mark. After Tuesday's match, the Scorpions have a three-game road trip at Lubbock Christian University, Eastern New Mexico University and College of the Southwest October 5-6.
Talita Milasauskas leads the Scorpions in three offensive categories -- aces (0.7 apg), kills (3.7 kpg), and blocks (1.5 bpg). Setter Daianarah Bracero leads in assists with an 11.2 average per game and Claudia Alarcon leads in digs with a 2.8 average per game.
