AUSTIN -- For the first time this year, all 12 members of the UTB/TSC
women's volleyball team played in each game of a 3-0 rout of winless
Huston-Tillotson University here Saturday, September 29 by scores of
30-12, 30-13, 30-19.
The Scorpions remained atop the Red River Athletic Conference South standings with a 3-0 record while HTU dropped to 0-3 in RRAC and 0-17 overall. UTB/TSC is now 16-5 overall and is expected to maintain or improve its position as the 22nd-ranked NAIA team in the country.
"We had this match under control pretty early, so it was a chance to play everybody," Scorpion head coach Marcus Young said. "Our starters got some rest, and the freshmen got to be on the floor more today. They needed that game experience."
Setter Dainarah Bracero had 41 assists, her highest output of a three-game series this season. She added four kills and three blocks.
Because the starters played less, the statistical totals were less than impressive. Claudia Alarcon had 10 digs to go with four kills and three aces. Talita Milasauskas, the team's statistical leader in kills, service aces, and blocks, had only six kills, six digs and three blocks in limited playing time
The Scorpions will face Texas A&M University-Kingsville at 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 2, at the Manuel Garza B. Gymnasium. It is the only home match for the Scorpions against an NCAA Division II opponent. The Scorpions have played four road matches against NCAA Division II opponents and have four more remaining.
