HOUSTON -- The UTB/TSC women's volleyball team took Houston Baptist
University to five games before dropping a 3-2 decision Saturday, September 22.
The loss dropped the Scorpions to 14-5 for the season. UTB/TSC and HBU were rivals in the Red River Athletic Conference in 2006 when the Huskies toppled the Scorpions four times, including twice in the playoffs.
Houston Baptist is now a member of the NCAA Division I but kept its matchups with the Scorpions.
"We played well and they played well," Scorpion head coach Marcus Young said. "These were two good teams playing hard. We have nothing to hang our heads about."
The Scorpions won the first game, 30-21, but lost the next two games, 30-25 and 30-28. The Scorpions came back to win the fourth game, 31-29, but HBU prevailed in the deciding fifth game, 15-7.
Claudia Alarcon led the Scorpions with 18 kills and 16 digs while Katie Japp added 16 kills and 12 digs. Talita Milasauskas was limited to seven kills, her lowest output of the season, but had 25 digs and five blocks. Daianarah Bracero had 50 assists and 10 digs.
The Scorpions' next match will be Friday, September 28, when they visit Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, and then Saturday, September 29, at Huston-Tillotson University in Austin.
