Boisterous Crowd Helps Scorpions Rally for 3-1 Victory

The nationally ranked UTB/TSC Scorpions women’s volleyball team came back from a lethargic first game to overpower College of the Southwest, 3-1, in a Red River Athletic Conference match at the Manuel Garza B. Gymnasium Tuesday, September 18.

'A crowd of more than 300 people were loud in their support of the 13-4 Scorpions, who had returned home from a Nebraska tournament only 24 hours before they took the floor Tuesday.

After dropping a 30-25 decision in the first game, the Scorpions won the next three games, 30-15, 30-18, 30-21.

The Scorpions came into the match as the 25th-ranked team in the NAIA. A new national poll will be released Wednesday.

UTB/TSC went 3-1 at the Hastings College Tournament September 14-15, losing only to 24th-ranked Northwestern (Iowa. The Scorpions did not return home from the trip until Monday.

 

College of the Southwest dropped to 3-4 for the season.

 

Talita Milasauskas led the Scorpions with 14 kills, four aces, 15 digs and six blocks. Katie Japp had 12 kills, five aces and four blocks. Claudia Alarcon added 11 kills and 18 digs. Daianarah Bracero had 39 assists.

  

The Scorpions visit Houston for matches Friday and Saturday, September 21-22 against the University of St. Thomas and Houston Baptist University, respectively.
