Scorpions Fall to Northwestern in 4 Games;
Defeat Central Methodist in 3 Games

HASTINGS, Neb. -- Northwestern College (Iowa), ranked one spot ahead of the UTB/TSC Scorpions in the national poll, knocked off the Scorpions in four games, 3-1, at the Hastings College/Quality Inn Tournament Friday, September 14.

UTB/TSC (10-4) came into the tournament ranked 25th in the nation. Northwestern (9-4) was ranked 24th.

On slate for the Scorpions on Saturday, September 15, are matches against Concordia University (8-3) at 11 a.m. and Dordt College (14-1) at 5 p.m. Dordt has been nationally ranked most of the season, as high as 21st, but is not currently ranked in the poll.

After the Nebraska trip, the Scorpions will be home for their first Red River Athletic Conference match of the season against College of Southwest at 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 18 at the Manuel B. Garza Gym.

Northwestern (Iowa) 3, Scorpions 1 (26-30, 30-23, 30-26, 30-20)

"They were very tall, and run a very fast offense, we had to right for every point," Scorpion head coach Marcus Young said. "They are a good team. We had a hard time stopping their outside attack."

Katie Japp and Talita Milasauskas each had double-doubles to lead the Scorpions, and Claudia Alarcon came within one kill of making it a trio.

Japp had 14 kills, 14 digs, and four blocks, Milasauskas had 12 kills, 14 digs, and seven blocks, and Alarcon had nine kills, 12 digs and three aces. Setter Daianarah Bracero had 42 assists.

Scorpions 3, Central Methodist (Mo.) 0 (30-22, 30-22, 31-29)

The Scorpions took control in the first and second games and held off Central Methodist in the third game for a 31-29 win.

Milasauskas led the Scorpions with 11 kills, four blocks, and two aces. Japp and Alarcon each had 10 and two blocks. Bracero had 29 assists.
