WAXAHACHIE -- With votes in the national poll under their belt, the UTB/TSC Volleyball Scorpions have a lot to prove in three matches Friday and Saturday, September 7-8, in Waxahachie and Fort Worth.

The Scorpions are 6-3  overall, ranked first in the NAIA Region VI poll, and ranked in a tie for 29th place in the first NAIA national poll released September 5.

They take on Southwestern Assemblies of God University at 6 p.m. in Waxahachie in their first Red River Athletic Conference match.

SAGU, located about 30 miles south of Dallas, is 6-1 thus far this season. The only loss for the Lady Lions was 3-0 to Lubbock Christian University, a team the Scorpions defeated, 3-0, at the South Padre Island Tournament.

"We've been training all season to do well in the conference and we're really looking forward to our first conference match," Scorpion head coach Marcus Young said. "We've been playing very well and hope to continue that."

On Saturday, the Scorpions have two other important matches against Region VI opponent -- at 9 a.m. against Southern Nazarene University in Waxahachie and at 4 p.m. against Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth.

The Scorpions have already defeated TWU this season, a 3-0 win at the South Padre Island Tournament.

UTB/TSC, which has won five of its last six matches, is getting some regional and national attention.

"It is flattering to be ranked the top team in the region," Young said. "We're deserving because we have played tough competition and done well. I hope as the season progresses, we'll be ranked higher in the national poll."

Scorpion middle blocker Talita Milasauskas leads the RRAC in blocks with a 1.4 average and is tied for the conference lead in kills with a 4.0 average. Setter Daianarah Bracero leads the conference in assists with a 11.3 average.
