friendly confines of the Manuel Garza B.
Gymnasium, coasting to a 3-0 victory over Our Lady of the Lake
University Tuesday, September 4.
The Scorpions are 6-3 this season, and the 30-13, 30-16, 30-11 victories continued a string of good news items this week.
They were ranked first in the first NAIA Region VI poll, received the Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Setter of the Week honors with Talita Milasauskas and Dainarah Bracero, respectively.
After winning all eight of their home matches in 2006, the Scorpions started their 2007 home campaign in impressive fashion.
OLLU, a new provisional member of the NAIA, is 1-6. The Saints are in their first year playing volleyball.
"We did pretty much whatever we wanted to do," Scorpion head coach Marcus Young said. "We wanted to play everybody in the lineup and be ready for our first conference match this week. We need to focus on our conference match this week and playing our regional opponents."
Outside hitter Katie Japp played a flawless game, registering 11 kills without an error for a .688 hitting percentage. She also had 11 digs to lead the Scorpions in that category.
Middle blocker Talita Milasauskas, who leads the Scorpions with a 4.1 per game average in kills and 1.4 per game average, had nine kills, six aces and five blocks. Setter Daianarah Bracero, the conference leader in assists with a 11.4 per game average, had 30, an average of 10 a game.
Overall, the Scorpions had a .405 hitting percentage, their best mark this season.
The Scorpions hit the road for a RRAC match against Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie Friday, September 7, and then play regional foes Southern Nazarene University and Texas Wesleyan University Saturday, September 8.
