State Ends Scorpion Volleyball Streak

– The UTB/TSC Scorpions faced three NCAA Division II universities
at the four-team
Fairfield Inn/Staybridge
Suites Invitational, and won two matches at the Junell Center/Stephens Arena
Friday and Saturday, August 31 and September 1.
On Saturday, the Scorpions blanked Angelo State University, 3-0, but fell to Midwestern State University, 3-1. UTB/TSC is now 5-3 and hosts Our Lady of the Lake University at 6:30 p.m. at Garza Gym.
The loss to Midwestern State by scores of 30-25, 24-30, 21-30, 22-30 ended the Scorpion winning streak at five matches. Earlier in the day, UTB/TSC blanked Angelo State, 30-28, 30-24, 30-27.
After three straight victories over NCAA Division II opponents, the Scorpions ran into a tougher MSU team.
“They matched up well against us," Scorpion head coach Marcus Young said. "They are excellent passing offense, and controlled the ball a little better than we did.
"Overall, it was a good tournament for us," Young said. "Playing this tough competition will help us to know what we need to work on, and hopefully it will pay off.”
Against ASU, Talita Milasauskas led the Scorpion victory with 12 kills and four blocks while Claudia Alarcon added nine kills and Dainarah Bracero seven kills and 35 assists. Lesly Montes led the digs category with seven.
Against MSU, Milasauskas had 20 kills, seven blocks and 10 digs. Alarcon had 17 kills and 19 digs. Bracero had 47 assists.
