Hastings, Savannah College Win Opening Matches at SPI Tournament

Three nationally ranked Hastings College and Savannah College
of Art & Design went undefeated in their first two matches of the Bahia Mar Resort-South Padre Island Invitational Volleyball
Tournament Friday, August 24 at the SPI Convention Centre.
Hastings defeated two Texas universities, Lubbock Christian College, 3-0, and Texas Wesleyan University, 3-1, while SCAD defeated Lubbock Christian, 3-0, and UTB/TSC, 3-1.
Hastings came into the tournament as the ninth-ranked team in the NAIA, while SCAD is ranked 10th.
The Scorpions lost their second match of the day in five games to Bellevue University, 37-35, 26-30, 28-30, 30-26, 15-11. Bellevue is ranked 17th in the NAIA.
UTB/TSC defeated SCAD in the first game of the match, 30-27, but dropped the next three close games, 31-29, 30-28, 30-26.
Thus, in the nine games the Scorpions played, they lost six games by a total of 18 points.
In the two matches, Talita Milasauskas had 36 kills, Claudia Alarcon 33 kills and 26 digs, and Dainarah Bracero had 86 assists.
