Scorpion forward Lena Candia and goalkeeper Jessica Hamer have been named Red River Athletic Conference Players of the Week for the period October 22-28.

Hamer was also selected NAIA Region VI Defensive Player of the Week.

Candia, a junior midfielder from Malmo, Sweden, led the third-seeded Scorpions to a 7-0 quarterfinal victory over Huston-Tillotson University with two goals and an assist. In their semifinal match-up with Texas Wesleyan University, she assisted on one of Scorpion goals en route to a 2-0 win. Candia capped it by knocking in the only goal of the championship game to secure a 1-0 victory over Bacone College (Okla.). Named the RRAC Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, Candia has 25 goals in 19 games heading into the NAIA Region VI Championship.

Hamer, a freshman goalkeeper from Sao Paulo, Brazil, was critical to Scorpions' three consecutive shutouts in the conference tournament. She was in goal for 65 minutes of the match with HTU and played for all 90 minutes during the other two matches. Supported by a strong defense, she made eight saves for the week. The Scorpions now have five straight shutouts, and Hamer was in goal for 85% of the 450 minutes.

Christina Nunez of Northwestern University was named Region VI Offensive Player of the Week.
