McCormick Leads Scorpions to 9-1 Win in Regular Season Finale

There was a Scottish flavor to the Scorpions in their final regular season men's soccer game at Morningside Park Saturday, October 20.

Seniors Iain MacGregor and captain Mark McCormick were honored on Senior Night with sombreros and a blanket with the music "Scotland the Brave" playing, and then McCormick played admirably i a 9-1 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

MacGregor, recovering from an injury, did not play.

UTB/TSC finished the regular season with a perfect 7-0 mark in the RRAC and 11-4-1in the school's first season with a soccer program. SAGU finished with a record of 1-15-1, 1-5-1.

"Mark McCormick was simply the best tonight, I hope the fans enjoyed watching him during the regular season," Scorpion head coach Dan Balaguero said. "I feel for SAGU because they got us on a good night some of the soccer tonight was top quality, the boys really moved the ball well.  A couple of our goals today were second to none, a joy to watch."

McCormick scored twice and had two assists. Fernando Mendoza had three goals and Brian Hardie two. Enrique Rivera and Chris Miller also scored for the Scorpions, who led by only a 2-0 score at halftime.

"SAGU made life hard for us and we struggled to break them down in the first half," Balaguero said. "I respect the way that battled hard to the end, and I wish them well in the very best in the future."

The Scorpions had sealed the No. 1 seed for the RRAC Tournament October 25-27 with a win over Texas College the previous day. The Scorpions will play in the semifinals October 26 against an opponent to be determined. UTB/TSC is seeded fourth in the NAIA Region VI.

"Now we need to refocus on concentrate on the playoffs where it will be win or go home soccer, Balaguero said."
