Scorpions, Monterrey Tec End in 1-1 Tie
Posted October 13, 2007
The UTB/TSC men's soccer team and Monterrey
Tec finished 90 minutes of aggressive soccer in a 1-1 tie Saturday, October 13,
at Morningside Park before a crowd of 1,000 people.
Coaches on both sides agreed to leave the game a tie rather than to go into overtime.
Ricky Rodriguez scored the only goal of the game for the Scorpions in the 76th minute of the second half. Monterrey Tec scored its goal earlier in the second half.
Scorpion coach Dan Balaguero rested several players because the Scorpions get back on the field at 4 p.m. Monday, October 15, against St. Thomas University of Houston.
St. Thomas is a member of the NAIA but is not part of the Red River Athletic Conference. The Scorpions are 9-3-1 with two games remaining on the schedule after Monday's game against St. Thomas.
UTB/TSC is 5-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play and leads Huston-Tillotson University and Texas Wesleyan University, both of whom are 3-1-1 and have two games remaining.
After Monday's game, the Scorpions have two regular season games remaining, both at Morningside Park. UTB/TSC can clinch the RRAC title when it hosts Texas College Friday, October 19. If the Scorpions don't clinch the title Friday, they can do so Saturday, October 20.
