HOUSTON -- Houston Baptist University stopped the UTB/TSC men's soccer team six-game winning streak with a 2-1 victory here Saturday, October 6.

The Rams, now 7-2, are members of NCAA Division I after years as a member of the NAIA. The Scorpions dropped to 8-3-1.

HBU scored in the 22nd minute on a header off a free kick and again in the 32nd minute on a 30-yard shot to take a 2-0 lead that stood up at halftime.

The Scorpions scored in the 64th minute on a free kick by McCormick.

HBU outshot the Scorpions, 7-5. Scorpion goalkeeper Juan Gamboa had two saves in 90 minutes of action.

"We gifted them two goals in first half, and it was hard to battle back from that," Scorpion head coach Dan Balaguero said. "We had trouble getting into the goal area after that. Against the good teams, it's virtually impossible to play from behind. Hopefully we'll learn from that and play well Sunday."

The Scorpions will stay in Houston for a 12 noon match Sunday, October 7, at University of St. Thomas (5-4-1).
