First-Place Scorpions Visit Metroplex for 2
Games
Posted September 27, 2007
The first-place UTB/TSC Scorpion men's soccer
team hits the road for two games in the Dallas-Fort Worth area Friday and
Saturday, September 28-29.
The Scorpions (6-2-1, 3-0), winners of four straight, visit Northwood University (1-7-1, 0-0) at 3 p.m. Friday in Cedar Hill, located just south of Dallas. On Saturday, the Scorpions visit Fort Worth for an important 7:30 p.m. game against Texas Wesleyan University (5-3-1, 1-0).
UTB/TSC leads the Red River Athletic Conference with a 3-0 record, and TWU is one of the teams tied for second at 1-0.
The Scorpions are also the hottest team in the league, winners of four straight and six of their last seven. The only loss has been by 1-0 to Our Lady of the Lake University on September 14.
"It's important for us to stay focused and try to take these two games," Scorpion head coach Dan Balaguero said. "We played horribly against College of the Southwest, especially near the goal, so we've put in extra practice on our shots."
The Scorpions knocked off CSW in Brownsville September 22, 1-0, on a header by Mark McCormick after a long throw-in by Pablo Degollado with 15 seconds remaining. It was the 24th shot for the Scorpions that night, compared to only four by CSW, and was the only shot that made it inside the net.
Fernando Mendoza leads the team in goals scored with five while Antonio Vernaschi leads in assists with four.
