Scorpions Win 1-0 on Goal with 15 Seconds Left in Game

The UTB/TSC men's soccer took 24 shots, but only Mark McCormick's shot made it inside the net with 15 seconds left in the game to send the Scorpions to a dramatic 1-0 victory over College of the Southwest at Morningside Park Saturday, September 22.

McCormick's shot came after a long throw-in by Pablo Degollado as the clock neared the 90-minute mark and the end of regulation play. Degollado had just entered the game three minutes prior to the dramatic finish and gets credit for an assist.

The win improves the Scorpions' season record to 6-2-1 and leaves them alone atop the Red River Athletic Conference with a 3-0 record. CSW drops to 3-6.

The Scorpions had two dozen chances to score, and only converted on the last shot. The performance was upsetting to Scorpion head coach Dan Balaguero.

"I want to apologize to our fans for our performance tonight," Balaguero said. "We had so many chances to put the game away, it was unbelievable. We have to work harder on our goal scoring."

The Scorpions controlled the ball so much that CSW had only two shots, compared to the 24 the Scorpions had.

The Scorpions will be on the road for the next two weekends, and will visit Northwood University in Cedar Hill on Friday, September 28, and Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth on Saturday, September 29.
