SHAWNEE, Okla. -- The UTB/TSC men's soccer team began its long-awaited 2007 season Monday, September 3, with a disappointing 2-1 loss to St. Gregory's University.

It was the first-ever men's soccer game for the Scorpions. St. Gregory's University is now 2-1.

UTB/TSC took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Marko Malovic in the 42nd minute, with an assist by Antonio Vernaschi.

St. Gregory's scored twice in the second half, first in the 42nd minute on a free kick and in the 73rd minute on a penalty kick. Shots on goal were even at 10-10.

"I was happy with the way we played, especially in the first half," Scorpion head coach Dan Balaguero said. "We dominated possession of the game. But the danger areas cost us the game.  Those types of fouls will kill you, in those areas of the field. Hopefully, we an learn from that, and move on."

The Scorpions will stay in Shawnee for a 3 p.m. Tuesday game against Oklahoma Baptist University, which is 3-2.

"They are a very similar team to St. Gregory's," Balaguero said. "It will be another test for us."
