Davila Signs Letter of Intent to Play Soccer

Posted May 3, 2007
Striker Miguel Davila from Pace High School has signed a Letter of Intent to play collegiate men's soccer with the UTB/TSC men's soccer team.

"Miguel is the kind of player that can change a game in the blink of an eye lid," Scorpion head men's soccer coach Dan Balaguero said. "I have watched him on numerous occasions and you do not notice him for large parts of the game and then he produces a moment of individual brilliance.  He has great technique, he can go by players and most importantly he is a natural goal scorer.

"Being the district offensive MVP speaks for itself," Balaguero said. "District 32-5A is a district with many great offensive players, so I am absolutely delighted to have a player of Miguel's pedigree join the program."

Davila is excited to play collegiate soccer at home. "I like Coach Balaguero's idea of how he wanted the team, and we're getting a lot of good parents. I also have the advantage that I have my family to support me, and that was important for me. I'm going to try my best on the field and score goals and help the team win and represent the University.

"I know all the guys who have already signed, and I'm excited about that, too."

Davila becomes the third high school player and seventh overall to sign with the Scorpions. Current UTB/TSC students Jorge Briones, Filiberto Cortinas and Rogelio Perez, all graduates of Porter High School; and Edgar Gracia, a graduate of Lopez High School, were the first recruits to sign. San Benito High School's Ricky Rodriguez and Pace goalkeeper Juan Gamboa also signed Letters of Intent.

The men’s soccer team begins play August 23, 2007 against the Instituto Tecnologico Superiores de Poza Rica Petroleros.
