Freshman Chris Milligan shot a 73 Tuesday to lead the UTB/TSC men's golf team at the Tyler Junior College Invitational Golf Tournament at the Oak Hurst Country Club in Bullard, located just south of Tyler.

Milligan's best round of the season came after an opening-day score of 76 for a 149 total. The Scorpions finished in seventh place with a 615 score, 35 shots behind the Tyler Junior College black team, which won the tournament with a 580 score.

"Chris is going to be really good, he’s got a great character for a golfer," said Scorpion coach Bob Lucio about the lefthander from Harlingen South High School. "He keeps his cool on the golf course. I’m really glad to have him.”

Agapito Ortega, Jr. shot a 76 for the second straight day for a 152 total. Anthony Lopez shot 77-79=156, Jones Mitchell 79-79=156 and Jerry Borgogni 81-82=163. Victor Calzada, competing as a single player, shot 81-90=171.

"They're not horrible scores, but it's not something we're going to accept," Lucio said. "We should always shoot 300 or better."

The tournament was the last for the Scorpion golfers during the fall season. The meat of the season tournaments will be held in the spring.

Leading the men's medalist scoreboard was Ricky Lee of the Lon Morris Junior College #1 team with an opening round 68. Eight players shot 72 or better.

The tournament is the final one for the Scorpions in the fall season. UTB/TSC will be competing in NAIA tournaments in Spring 2007.
