The short fall season comes to a close for the UTB/TSC men's and women's golf teams, as they compete in the Tyler Junior College Golf Tournament Monday and Tuesday.

The 36-hole tournament will be played at the Oak Hurst Golf Course in Bullard, located south of Tyler.

Anthony Lopez led the men's team to a second place finish at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor Tournament last week, taking the individual championship with a two-round total of 143. The Scorpions finished second in the field with a 599, three shots behind the top score, boosting the team's confidence.

"The guys realize now that we can win anywhere we compete," said coach Bob Lucio. "It's a winning attitude you have to have. If you don't have it, you can't win in any sport."

The Scorpions actually tied UT-Tyler for second, but took home the second place plaque because of a stronger fifth man score.

At the UHM Tournament, Agapito Lopez shot a 73-78=151, Jones Mitchell a 73-82=155 and Chris Milligan a 76-81=157 to complete the Scorpion foursome. Jerry Borgogni's 85-75=160 was important for bringing home the second place trophy.

"Every shot counts when you're playing for five hours, you can't let up for 10 seconds," Lucio said. "You can lose concentration and you can lose the whole round."
