Scorpions Win Lucio Tournament;
Ortega Wins Medalist Honors

LAGUNA VISTA -- UTB/TSC golfer Agapito Ortega shot a 147 to win medalist honors and lead the Scorpion men's golf team to the championship of the 9th Annual Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. Intercollegiate Golf Tournament Sunday, February 18, at the South Padre Island Golf Club in Laguna Vista.

After an opening round score of 69, Ortega shot a 78 Sunday for a two-day total of 147, still good enough for a four-stroke victory. Teammate Jones Mitchell (72-79=151) and J.D Wner of Northwood University finished tied for second at 151.

The Scorpions won the team championship with a 36-hole total of 615, 11 shots better than runner-up New Mexico Community College, which had a 626. Northwood had a 634 and Texas A&M International University had a 691.

Anthony Lopez of the Scorpions finished in fourth place with a 76 Sunday for a two-day total Other Scorpion scores were Victor Calzada 82-80=162, Jerry Borgogni 83-84=167, and Chris Milligan at 79-98=177.

The next tournament for the Scorpion men's golf team will be Feb. 26-27 at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor University Spring Invitational in Salado.
