Jesse Galvan, 2006 graduate of Edinburg High School. has signed a Letter of
Intent to join the UTB/TSC baseball program.
Galvan was a multi-sport athlete at Edinburg, playing running back in football, outfield in baseball, and running the sprints and relays for the Bobcat track team. He received District 31-5A awards several times in all three sports, and was a four-year regional qualifier in track. Galvan will join the Scorpions as a right-handed pitcher.
"We were excited about the natural ability and arm strength he had, and we're excited that he is a hard worker," Scorpion assistant baseball coach Derek Waddoups said. "He has natural tools that excite us, and he has a huge upside."
Galvan, who tried out at the Scorpion Baseball Combine in June, was enrolled at South Texas College during 2006-07 season. He plans to major in Kinesiology and Sports Medicine program at UTB/TSC.
"Taking a year off took a toll, but it's like riding a bike, it comes back to you," Galvan said. "I'm excited about the new team. I'm excited about playing with these new young guns. I really like how Coach Barta recruited a lot from the Valley. It's another reason that I decided to try out over here."
