Posted April 18, 2007
LAREDO -- In the first baseball meeting ever between the two schools, Texas A&M International came from behind to defeat UTB/TSC, 7-5, at the TAMIU Student Activities Center Wednesday, April 18.

The Scorpions dropped to 17-21-1 while the Dustdevils, members of NCAA Division II, improved to 28-12-1.

UTB/TSC scored four runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-3 lead before TAMIU cut the lead to 5-4 in the sixth and scored three runs in the seventh to take the 7-5 lead.

The Scorpions used three pitchers to give each one enough rest for the big upcoming weekend series. Trey Garcia and Jon Ali each pitched three innings and David Belleperche took the loss while pitching two innings.

Hawk Scott went 2-for-4 and Gilbert Gonzales 2-for-5 to lead the Scorpions' eight-hit attack.

UTB/TSC returns to Red River Athletic Conference South action Friday and Saturday with a critical three-game series at Houston Baptist. The Scorpions (6-6 in RRAC South) need a sweep over HBU to qualify for the RRAC playoffs, or two wins and some help by other conference teams.
