The UTB/TSC Scorpions play at home for the second week in a row as they host the Huston-Tillotson Rams in a three-game series Friday and Saturday, March 30-31 at Scorpion Field. Friday’s doubleheader starts at 4 p.m. and Saturday’s single game starts at 11 a.m.
The Scorpions started Red River Athletic Conference play last weekend against Texas College and swept the three-game series.
The Scorpions are now 14-14-1 overall but more importantly, 3-0 in the RRAC South. The Rams are 23-15 overall and 2-1 in the RRAC South. These two teams played a three-game non-conference series March 2-3 in Austin with the Rams winning two of three.
Expected to start on the mound in the three-game series are David Belleperche (5-1, 2.68 ERA), Trey Garcia (4-2, 3.16 ERA), and Jon Ali (0-2, 4.73 ERA). Garcia is ranked ninth in the nation in innings pitched per game (7.125).
Among the regular starters, outfielder Jacob Yousif is batting .589 during a 12-game hitting streak. He leads the team in batting average (.379), followed by shortstop Scott Price (.309), centerfielder Gabe Cruz (.304), leftfielder Andres Monterrubio (.286), and first baseman Evan Hardman (.273).
The Scorpions rank ninth in NAIA in stolen bases per game (2.79) and stolen base attempts (3.51. Yousif leads the team with 14.
The Scorpions hit the road to Hawkins, Texas in their next three-game conference series against Jarvis Christian College. They return home April 13-14 for their final home stand against Wiley College.
