Scorpions Back To Friendly Confines of Home

The UTB/TSC Scorpions are home for the first time in five weeks for a three-game series against Texas College Friday and Saturday, March 23-24 at Scorpion Field in the Red River Athletic Conference opener.

 

The Scorpions went 9-7 during their games in Austin, Odessa, Fort Worth, Dallas, and Marshall.  Including the Texas College series, the Scorpions will play three of their next four series at Scorpion Field. 

 

The Scorpions have the fourth-best record in the RRAC-South division with a 11-14-1 record.  Texas College enters the series with a record of 1-25. 

 

Expected to start on the mound in the three-game series are David Belleperche (4-1, 2.48 ERA), Trey Garcia (3-2, 2.52 ERA),  Jon Ali (0-2, 4.78 ERA), Julian Moya (0-2, 5.79 ERA), or Kevin Cantu Kevin Cantu (1-4, 6.52 ERA). Garcia is ranked seventh in the nation in innings pitched per ame (7.143).

 

Among the regular starters, outfielder Jacob Yousif is batting .484 in his last nine games.   He leads the team in batting average (.354), followed by leftfielder Andres Monterrubio (.299), first baseman Evan Hardman (.292) and shortstop Scott Price (.288).  Senior second baseman Gilbert Gonzales ranks second in doubles in the conference with nine. 

 

The Scorpions rank ninth in NAIA in stolen bases (2.769) and stolen base attempts (3.5) with centerfielder Gabe Cruz leading the team with 12 steals.

 

UTB/TSC will be at home Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, for a three-game series against Huston-Tillotson University.
