BELTON -- The UTB/TSC baseball team and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor University ended a three-game series with a 3-3 tie in a game called because of darkness Saturday, February 10.
The Crusaders won the first game of the doubleheader Saturday, 8-6. The Scorpions are now 0-2-1 for the season. UMHB is now 3-0-1.
"They're a good team. We have a good complex offense and it's going to take some time to get adjusted. If we had taken care of the baseball, we'd be 3-0. For as many mistakes as we made defensively, we had a chance of winning every game. We showed no signs of laying down for any game."
"Almost all of the runs in the 8-6 game were unearned," Barta said. "All of our pitchers threw well. We haven't helped them. The middle of our lineup haven't done what they need to with runners on base."
On Sunday, February 11, the Scorpions will travel south to Seguin for a doubleheader against Texas Lutheran University starting at 1 p.m. Kevin Cantu, a freshman from St. Joseph Academy, will pitch the first game and David Belleperche will pitch the second game. TLU was ranked 17th in the NCAA Division III preseason poll.
UTB/TSC opens its home season at 4 p.m. Thursday, February 15, with a doubleheader against Viterbo University of Wisconsin, as part of a five-game series.
