Also for the first time, the Scorpions will host the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament from April 29-May 3.
The Scorpions open the season at Scorpion Field against Wayland Baptist University for doubleheaders at 4 p.m. January 19 and 1 p.m. January 20.
UTB/TSC will play 29 home games, including 11 doubleheaders and seven single games. Teams from Wisconsin, North Dakota, Missouri and Massachusetts will visit between March 2-18.
"From day one it was our intent to create a spring destination for the NAIA," head baseball coach Joel Barta said. "What is exciting for us is that we are getting an opportunity for teams from across the country to find out just who we are. I think it is also good business for the community, by us putting that many fans, players and coaches in our hotels, restaurants and other businesses is just good business for Brownsville and the Rio Grande Valley."
Viterbo University of Wisconsin also visited UTB/TSC in 2006. Valley City State University of North Dakota, Willilam Woods University of Missouri and Fisher College of Massachusetts each will be spending their Spring Breaks in Brownsville.
The Scorpions will also be hosting NAIA newcomer University of Houston-Victoria for the first time. UTB/TSC will host only one of its four Red River Athletic Conference South Zone opponents at home -- Jarvis Christian College.
Hosting the conference tournament is a big plus for the Scorpion athletic program.
“We are working extremely hard to continue to improve and showcase all of our athletic programs," Director of Athletics Dan Huntley said. "We are all hopeful of providing the best environment for our student-athletes to enjoy and have a successful collegiate experience.
"It will be extremely exciting for our campus and community to watch the best of the RRAC battle for an opportunity to continue their season on the way to the 2008 NAIA World Series. We hope to be great hosts to the other RRAC institutions and utilize this tournament as a means to have the RRAC award our campus more RRAC Championships in the future.”
