The biggest crowd of the season was on hand to
support the UTB/TSC Scorpions in a doubleheader sweep over Jarvis
Christian College, 7-4 and 10-0, Friday, April 4, in Red River Athletic
Conference South Zone games at Scorpion Field.
UTB/TSC and JCC complete their three-game series with a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday at Scorpion Field.
The Scorpions improved to 17-27 for the season and 4-4 in RRAC South Zone play. Jarvis Christian dropped to 8-20-1 and 2-6. Of the 12 conference games the Scorpions play this year, this three-game series is the only one to be played at Scorpion Field. UTB/TSC wraps up conference play with a road series at Wiley College April 11-12.
A group of tailgaters made up of campus staff and alumni were on hand to support the Scorpions. About 250 people attended the game, which is the last home weekend series of the season. After Saturday's game, the Scorpions have only one home regular season game remaining on Tuesday, April 15, against Texas A&M International University.
Scorpions 7, Bulldogs 4 (first game)
UTB/TSC scored four runs in the fifth inning on five hits to wipe out a 4-2 deficit and take a 6-4 lead, before adding one more run in the sixth. Consecutive singles by Jorge Camorlinga, Jacob Yousif, Brian Dombeck, and Tyler O'Neal started the rally. Gilbert Puente added a run-scoring single later in the inning.
Camorlinga and Puente had two hits each for the Scorpions, who collected eight in the game. Dombeck drove in two runs and Camorlinga scored twice.
Chris Walker started on the mound for the Scorpions, allowing two earned runs. Dombeck (2-0) came in relief and picked up the victory, striking out six in two and one-thirds innings of work. Evan Hardman picked up the save for the Scorpions.
Scorpions 10, Bulldogs 0 (second game)
Shawn Collins blasted a three-run homer to highlight a six-run second inning for the Scorpions. Collins added a single and double and finished with three hits and four RBI.
Julian Moya pitched a complete game five-hitter, striking out five to improve his record to 6-5. He was supported by great defensive plays by Andres Monterrubio, Schaune Collins and Ignacio Celedon.
The Scorpions had 14 hits, with Yousif, Monterrubio and Gilbert Puente getting two each. Puente had his first triple of the year down the right field line.
