Errors Contribute to 9-3 Loss to Huston-Tillotson

AUSTIN – Huston-Tillotson University took advantage of seven UTB/TSC
errors in a 9-3 victory over the Scorpions in a Red River Athletic
Conference game here Friday, March 28, at Downs Field.
The Rams maintained control of the RRAC South Zone lead with a 4-0 record over the second-place Scorpions, who are now 2-2. Overall, HTU is 21-13 while the Scorpions are now 15-23.
The two teams complete their three-game series with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Downs Field. The Rams and Scorpions have the most victories among the five teams in the RRAC South. The other three teams have less than nine wins.
UTB/TSC took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning on walks by Ryan MacDonald and Jorge Camorlinga, an error that allowed MacDonald to score, and a run-scoring double by Brian Dombeck.
HTU scored seven of its runs off Scorpion starter Julian Moya (5-5) between the third and seventh innings. HTU scored three times in the third inning with the help of four Scorpion errors.
Moya allowed eight runs, five of them earned, in seven innings of work. He had a season-high 10 strikeouts, and walked three. Chris Tuttle (5-1) was the winning pitcher.
The Scorpions had only five hits, two by David Pittman.
After the weekend series, the Scorpions face independent University of Houston-Victoria in a road doubleheader Wednesday, April 2. The Scorpions resume RRAC South Zone play in Brownsville April 4-05 for a three-game conference series against Jarvis. It is the last weekend home series for the Scorpions this season.
